The Woodland Trails will be lit for a nature stroll to Heritage Park.
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 1, 2022 AT 6 PM – 8 PM
Indoor and outdoor festivities begin with Santa arriving via fire truck with Woodhaven HS Marching band at 6 pm!
Santa will light up the Tree in front of the Community Center.
Then we have Trackless train rides, food trucks, Reindeer, petting farm, S’mores with Brownstown Fire, ice carvers, dance performances, Rivers End Brass, crafts, SANTA!
Fireworks will end the night at 8 pm!

Here is your three day itinerary chock full of wonderful events and family fun. All events excluding the Sip & Shop which is our Craft, Artisan, and Vendor show, are free. There is no charge to get into the Sip & Shop just be prepared to bring your money because we have lined up over 40 wonderfully different and exciting Crafters, Artisans, and Vendors for your shopping pleasure. It’s a perfect way to purchase fabulous and unique gifts for everyone on your shopping list. Come out and enjoy a wonderful Winterfest weekend!
Join Mayor Kuspa as he officially welcomes Santa Claus to the City of Southgate and lights the Municipal Christmas Tree in Kiwanis Train Park.
Christmas carols will be sung as Santa is presented the key to the city. Stay after the tree lighting to enjoy twinkling Christmas lights and festive decorations sponsored by local business.
The Great Lakes Live Steamers will offer mini train rides to Santa’s North Pole Hut from 6pm-9pm. Get your picture taken with Santa and enjoy some hot cocoa!

SPECIAL Santa’s Christmas Express TRAIN WEEKEND
Join the Great Lakes Live Steamers for the Santa’s Christmas Express Train Ride presented with the City of Southgate:
- Friday, December 2nd – Come early and join us for the City of Southgate Tree Lighting Ceremony which starts at 5pm with caroling, as we wait for the arrival of Santa before the train rides begin
- Saturday, December 3rd – We will wait for the arrival of Santa and then the train rides begin
- weather permitting
Interested in becoming a citizen scientist?
Love being outdoors and observing nature? Have you ever heard of phenology?
A ranger will be leading a hike with the focus of collecting phenology data and teaching nature observations skills. As the seasons change, so will the wildlife we’ll see and learn about, so each hike will be a different experience. We will empower anyone who wants to learn how they can be a citizen scientist and how to help us collect data every time they visit the refuge!
The hikes are from 1:00pm to 3:00pm and are currently scheduled for the following dates: November 5th, and December 3rd.
Please understand these dates may change if necessary.
Help welcome in the holiday season on December 3rd with live music and entertainment starting at 4pm.
