About The Race
The Running To Honor 5K is a timed, family friendly walk (or run) focused on keeping the memory of our Fallen Soldiers & Veterans alive and reminding others that Freedom is never free. The event will take place on Saturday, July 27th, 2023 inside Heritage Park located at 12111 Pardee Rd, Taylor, MI 48180. The start time of the 5K walk (or run) is 8:00 AM in front of the Sheridan Pavilion. The Kids .5K will start at 7:30 AM.
The theme this year is the Iraq War. The Iraq War (also called the second Persian Gulf War) lasted from 2003 to 2011. We are hoping we can educate others in the community about what the Iraq War was about and keep the history and memory of our Fallen Soldiers that made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq alive as we say their names and walk (or run) in memory of them.
The Taylor Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4422 and Running To Honor organizations will receive the proceeds raised from this event.
We’re one of the few truly international marathon courses in the world! A true showcase of Detroit, the course features iconic neighborhoods like the historic Woodbridge, the District Detroit, Eastern Market, the Dequindre Cut and a finish line at the foot of Campus Martius.
With a wave start, participants are sent off at three-minute intervals beginning at 7 a.m., which eases congestion in those early miles. Groups are based on the projected pace indicated on the registration form, so an accurate response is necessary.
