New Nonprofit PARC Paws Brings Senior Citizens and Senior Pets Together

Longtime Discover Downriver client and Downriver Resident, Gabbi Birkner has launched an inspiring nonprofit with a heartwarming mission: pairing senior citizens with senior pets in need of loving homes.

Longtime Discover Downriver client and Downriver Resident, Gabbi Birkner has launched an inspiring nonprofit with a heartwarming mission: pairing senior citizens with senior pets in need of loving homes.

It’s a truly “pawfect” match that benefits both people and animals. Even better, participating seniors receive ongoing support for their pet’s food and veterinary care, helping remove financial barriers to pet ownership.

Gabbi has partnered with PARC Home Care & Hospice to launch PARC Paws, a newly established 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of older adults through the companionship of animals.

The idea behind PARC Paws is simple but powerful. Pets provide comfort, companionship, purpose, and unconditional love—benefits that can make a tremendous difference in the lives of seniors. At the same time, many older pets spend their later years waiting for a forever home. PARC Paws brings these two groups together while providing the resources needed to help them thrive.

In addition to encouraging senior pet adoptions, PARC Paws will help seniors with pet-related expenses and resources through fundraising, community partnerships, volunteers, and generous donor support. The organization is committed to helping seniors keep their beloved companions by their side for years to come.

“Animals have an incredible ability to provide comfort, companionship, and purpose,” said Gabbi Birkner. “Our goal is to remove barriers that may prevent seniors from experiencing those benefits and to create a program that supports both the individual and the pet for years to come.”

As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, PARC Paws welcomes donations, volunteers, community partners, sponsors, and animal advocates who want to make a difference in the lives of both seniors and senior pets.

Whether you’re looking to support the organization, volunteer your time, sponsor a program, or simply learn more, every contribution helps strengthen the bond between people and animals while improving lives throughout the community.

At Discover Downriver, we’re excited to see Gabbi bring this compassionate vision to life and wish PARC Paws great success as it begins making a meaningful impact—one senior and one senior pet at a time.
