Join us for our free weekly planetarium shows! 40 of our 60 seats are reservable for every show. Reserve seats at noon on the Sunday prior to a show at wsuplanetarium.eventbrite.com . Reserved seats get claimed quickly, but we always have 20 walk in seats available too. Full details are below and on the eventbrite page.
Come join us under the dome for a planetarium show at Wayne State University! Located in room 0209 Old Main, we’ll do some hands on demonstrations, give you a live star talk about the current night sky and our favorite astronomical objects, and follow up with ‘Phantom of the Universe: The Search for Dark Matter’ – a full dome film about the search for this material that physicists believe makes up 27% of the universe, narrated by Tilda Swinton.
Our planetarium has seating for 60. Children are welcome at our Friday night shows so long as they can enjoy themselves without disturbing the other visitors. Our vocabulary and topics of discussion are geared towards a teen and adult audience so young science enthusiasts will love it but those children new to astronomy may prefer our Young Astronomers show, offered on the second Saturday of the month.
Shows are held on Fridays at 7pm and 8:30pm. Shows start promptly at the posted time, so guests should arrive early to be seated, and give themselves plenty of time to park and walk into the building. Those with reserved seats who are not present 10 minutes prior to the show will have their seats released to walk-in guests if space is limited.
Tickets: 2/3 of our tickets are available for reservation and 1/3 are available to walk-in guests at the door. You can reserve free tickets beginning at noon the Sunday before the show via Eventbrite here: wsuplanetarium.eventbrite.com .
SATURDAY MORNING FAMILY SHOWS:
We have free Young Astronomer shows on the second Saturday morning of each month. These shows are a bit shorter and cover topics that will engage our younger guests and their families.
Interested in bringing a large group to the planetarium?
The planetarium can be reserved for private showings for school groups, scout troops, birthday parties or by other organizations for a fee. Please complete our group reservation form for more information: http://planetarium.wayne.edu/starstudents
Looking for other astronomical events in the area?
Consider checking out an astronomy club and heading out with them to look through their telescopes at the night sky! Some of the astronomy clubs in our area include the Warren Astronomical Society, Ford Amateur Astronomy Club, Seven Ponds Astronomy Club, Oakland Astronomy Club, University Lowbrow Astronomers, Farmington Community Stargazers, and Detroit Astronomical Society. Wayne State University students should join the WSU Student Astronomical Society.
