The Downriver Council for the Arts (DCA) presents: “Downriver Celebrates Woodstock” (50 years of Peace and Music). August 15-18, 1969, on the alfalfa fields of the humble dairy farmer, Max Yasgur, became home to the greatest music festival of all time. Nearly half a million people converged on the White Lake area of Bethel Woods, New York to escape the turmoil of the 1960’s. Their message of love, peace and unity was successfully told through music and art. Billed as “An Aquarian Experience: 3 Days of Peace and Music,” Woodstock remains synonymous with the counter-culture movement of the era. We encourage artists to research the iconic festival, and explore its depth for inspiration. Art can be of any media, but must relate to the subject matter. Woodstock can never be replicated, but it can be celebrated!
